Telkom ADSL Speed Upgrades Set For Late August 2012

Many broadband users have been patiently waiting for their ADSL speed upgrades which was set for 1st August 2012, well Telkom has announced their new upgrade schedule which now sets ADSL line speed upgrading from 24 August through till 1 October 2012. The new scheduled is quite a change from the previous upgrade time-frame of 1 August to September 2012.

“Telkom is enhancing its value proposition to truly differentiate our broadband offerings. We are accelerating the evolution of broadband offerings in the country.” said Manelisa Mavuso, Telkom’s managing director for consumer services and retail.

The new planned schedule for Telkom’s 1Mbps and 2Mbs ADSL speed upgrades will be as follows:

  • The Up to 1024 kbps will be upgraded to Up 2048 kbps from the 24th of August 2012 and will continue for approximately six weeks due to the extensive base on these services.
  • The planned upgrade for the Up to 384 kbps to 1024 kbps will commence on the 01st of October 2012 and will also continue for approximately six weeks.

Well we can expect many 384Kbps ADSL users to be irritated with this news but lets look at the bright side, 384Kbps users will get their much deserved speed upgrade and we can finally say 1Mbps is the new entry level ADSL access speed for South Africa (not much to brag about but still good news).
